Ask Amy (Letter 1)
Amy Thorton is a woman whom I had the pleasure of meeting and diving deep into the archives of her life housed at the University of Cape Town Jagger Library. For nine years from 2000 to 2009, she functioned as a "Dear Abby" figure, helping folks all over the newly democratic South Africa find access to resources, locate their long lost friends or sometimes even find love. This is one of those exchanges, taken from the Thorton/Ask Amy Collection
